#1. The Reverse Engineering Competitor Backlinks
Its competitors likely spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours developing their link-building strategies and acquiring high-quality links.
If you have a small budget, why would you try to compete with these companies? You may not get the same quality of links as your competitors.
Instead of banging your head against the angry wall and deciding to work harder, you must work smarter.
The idea I suggest is simple: You are drawing with your competitors; They work hard to get links, you follow them and you get them.
For example, Brian Dean likes to analyze the backlinks of his competitors to create similar but better content.
Then create a new and improved article, which you use to launch on sites linked to your competitors, so you can also get a link.
This simple tactic has helped you increase website traffic and make it one of the best SEO sites in the world. It is easier said than done, but if you do the right thing, you can get excellent results with little effort.
This is how you do it:
Step#1. Make a list of your competitors
Start by making a list of 5x competitors that rank the keyword you want to rank.
It doesn’t matter if they are bigger or smaller than you.
Everyone will teach some valuable lessons.
Step#2: analyze your backlinks
Once you have your list of competitors, you should analyze your backlink profile. As you know, Ahrefs, SEMRush, and SEO Spyglass best tools for this.
The analysis is simple: go to Ahrefs Site Explorer, add a link from one of your competitors and click on the orange button.
In the menu on the left, click on the link that says Backlinks.
Here you can see all the inbound links that competitors obtained (in this case, a paleo blog).
To make your analysis more interesting, click on the Link Type button on the bar above the results.
Here you can organize the links of those who are “followed”, governmental, educational, and editorial (ie those that are naturally linked to a piece of content).
Let’s say I wanted to see the educational links competitor got.
These links show that this competitor is respected in his industry. In addition, you can see some educational sites linked to recipes, which show interest in this type of content.
Export the list of URLs found to all competitors. Once you find a list of incoming links, start by opening each link in a separate tab, one at a time.
From here you must start thinking. What did your competitor do to get this link? By working on the link replication list, you will have a good idea of this process.
You can discover new opportunities, get an idea of what people like in your industry, and see what type of content gets the most links.
#2. Link Building Testimony
This method of linking almost seems too easy …
Good …
This is because it is!
With just a few minutes of work, you can create powerful homepage links to your site.
Let me explain what I mean.
By contacting us and offering positive testimonials of the services and/or products you are using …
… You can post your testimonial with a link to your site.
Step#1: generate a list of objectives
First, you need to find the sites of services and products for which you could give a testimonial.
Every site needs
- Be relevant to your niche
- Have existing testimonials
- It really is a product/service that you use
Start by writing a list of tools/products/services that you are already using in your business. That could be something like …
- Your favorite horse chair brand
- The action camera you use
- A training course you took
- Any tool/service you use regularly
If you are struggling to get an idea, you can cheat a little.
And many times you will find that a free trial will be offered to test the tool …
You can also search for people in your niche who have just launched (or are about to launch) products/tools/services.
They often need/want testimonials to help launch a product.
You can usually find these people hanging out
- Niche related forums (use BoardReader to find them)
- Facebook groups (use the search function to find them)
- Sites like ProductHunt, HackersNews, and BetaList
Simply gather all your targets and add them to a spreadsheet:
Step # 2: Find the right person to choose
Now we need to find the right person to contact.
Sometimes you can simply request through the contact form on the website and some will even have dedicated testimony submission forms.
But if you are doing more than some of them, use a tool like NinjaOutreach to help you.
Simply browse the site on your list and it will show you the contact details.
Or you can use these useful extensions to help you find email addresses:
They will also play the role of the person behind each email address to help you discover who the best person is. You can then add each email address to your spreadsheet and start contacting everyone on your list with an argument.
Step#3: send your testimonial Pitch
Before spending time creating a testimony …
First, show them the idea that they could have a testimony created by you.
Here are some things to keep in mind when putting together your Pitch:
- present yourself
- Tell them how your tool helped you
- Include specific results
- Ask them if they can put together a testimony.
- Keep it simple
Keep it short, simple, and enjoyable.
Step #4: Write the perfect testimony
Writing the perfect testimony is very simple.
You want to write a short text that includes:
- What did you like best?
- How the tool/service helped you
- Specific Results
- Your personal recommendation
In a nutshell: Write a testimony that it would be stupid not to post. BUT!
Make sure what you write is true. After all, you are attaching your name and recommendation to a tool/product/service.
#3. Link Roundup link building
Link roundup is blog posts that group links to amazing content.
This is usually done daily, weekly or monthly, and usually includes a short recording.
Here is an example of the SnapAgency Blog:
You can find types of publications in almost all niches.
All you have to do is
- Find sites that publish post regularly
- Choose your content for the next roundup.
It is not much easier than that!
Step#1: How to find link Roundup Sites
Use Google to do the following searches …
… And then analyze the results and add the appropriate rounding sites to a spreadsheet.
For example:
If I wanted to link to my e-commerce SEO guide …
My Google search would look like this:
In a matter of seconds, I have several relevant search results to add to my list:
- bigapplemedia.com/weekly-link-roundup-no-46-latest-marketing-links/
- theleverageway.com/blog/mobile-ecom-link-roundup/
- blog.spiralytics.com/monday-reading-list-seo-and-link-building-edition/
Repeat the search for each suggestion mentioned above. And once you have a list ready …
Step#2: Pitching your awesome content
Find the contact email address for each site using a tool like NinjaOutreach or FindThatLead.
Or if you have time to search the site for an email address or a contact form. The problem with this kind of field …
bloggers who publish this type of post-receive emails like this every day
So, if you want to stand out …
… you need to do something a little different. I suggest you use a double approach:
- Send the initial disclosure email (not asking for anything
- Then pivot to the pitch
After they respond, turn with the link step. And that is it!
Link Roundup Link Building is very simple and easy to perform. All you need is…..
- Good content
- A little fat on the elbow to find roundups.
Not only will you get a link, but you’ll also get targeted traffic!
#4. Resource Page Link Building
Most sites have a resource page that lists all the tools, guides, and articles they use or find useful. I have some on the blog.
- 12 Advance Practice For Writing Seo Headlines To Generate Traffic
- 8 Reason Why You Don’t Have Any Organic Website Traffic 2019 And How To Fix

And it’s not just me.
Check out this Goinswriter Team resource page:
In essence, it’s just a list of links with some additional comments. I’m sure you found out where this is going, right?
The concept is very simple.
- Find resource pages in your niche
- Contact them requesting a link
Voila!
Step#1: Find resource pages
There are some ways to do this …
It just depends on how much elbow fat you want to put But if you are doing it for the first time, do it the hard way with Option 1 to learn the ropes.
Option 1 – Google Search (manual form)
Go to Google and search for these terms.
- Keyword +inurl:links
- Keyword +useful resources
- Keyword +helpful resources
- Keyword +inurl:useful links
- Keyword +useful links
If I wanted to link to a meditation blog, it would be like this:
Simply analyze the results and choose the ones that fit your content. Add them to a spreadsheet and you will be ready for the next step. Or if you don’t want to do the heavy lifting …
Option 2: Ninja Outreach (the automatic way)
Another great way to find resource pages for your niche is with NinjaOutreach. Enter your keyword in the search bar and filter the results by “Resource Page” –
You will get a good long list of pages of relevant resources instantly.
Then, with just a few clicks, you can automatically search for contact details and submit the proposal.
Step#2: Pitching of your content
The next step is to go to the site and submit your content to add it to the resources page. This is easier said than done. But, as we did before, it is better to adopt a double approach to place the link:
- Send first disclosure email
- Then turn to place the link
Send this to each of your destinations and wait for answers. Once they bite: Pivot to request a mention on your page. It is as easy as that!
The more people you ask, the more links you will have.
Simple!
#5. Internal Link Building
Internal link building is one of my favorite link-building strategies. Not only do you have total control over where you place your links …
But:
It is super easy to implement and carries little or no risk of penalty.
What is an internal link?
An internal link is a link placed on a web page that links to another page in the same domain.
For example-
- This is an internal link that points to a page of this blog.
- This is an external link that points to a page in a different domain.
And because these are internal links that we place on our websites and pages. This means that we have complete control over them and the anchor text we use.
Why are internal links so valuable?
Internal links are very valuable and most people don’t realize how much they help their SEO.
Here’s why …
- Internal links help Google discover new content
- Internal links help Google understand and better classify your content.
- Internal links can be used to control Google spiders
- Internal links can be used to direct traffic to high conversion pages
This is the most underused link-building strategy in SEO. And I do not know why … Because it is very easy to implement!
Manually Internal link building
First, you must make a list of your destination URLs and keywords. Then use Google to search for posts on your site where you can add relevant links.
- site:yourdomain.com keyword
Add your links and repeat for each URL / keyword in your list. It may take a while, but I promise it’s worth it.
PRO ADVICE: The construction of internal links is not a definitive and forgotten process. You should make sure to add internal links from old content to new content every time you post!
#6. Expired domains
One of my favorite link-building hacks is using expired domains. Why?
Because of some expired domains
- Get excellent backlink profiles
- Have high levels of authority
- They are very relevant to your niche.
- Get valuable backlinks from places like Wikipedia, BBC, New York Times, etc.
Regardless of which side of the stupid white hat / black hat argument stands. You should exercise your power for your business.
And if you’re super smart about it … You can buy them for the same price as new domains! (More on this later)
You have some options when buying an expired domain,
- Create a new site in the expired domain with instant authorization
- Use expired domains to link to your site
- Redirect your expired domain to pass the link juice to your site
That’s why so many people use them, because if you create a website in an expired domain that is highly authorized and relevant …
Not only will you get an initial advantage with an incredible link profile, but you will also have full control over
- Content
- Relevance
- Link Positioning
- Anchor text
And if you do it right …
It’s like having an invisible army of official sites, all with the sole purpose of linking you. But the trick is to find relevant expired domains that have authority first. Because once you have one, there are many different ways to use it to your advantage.
How to find expired domains
Finding expired domains can be as difficult or easy as you want. I have used all the tools under the sun over the years and, for me, the best tool by far is DomainHunterGatherer.
This will help you find expired domains and get important metrics for you.
Check out this video to learn how to use it.
What you do with an expired domain after discovering it is up to you.
You can use them to create powerful backlinks or create a new site with instant authority.
The power is really in your hands with expired domains.
#7 – Guest Blogging
Boring right? But guest blogs are one of the most popular, simple, and effective link-building strategies that exist …
The funny thing is that most people label the guest post as a white hat strategy. And more recently:
John Mueller advised to nofollow links
My point is: ALL FORMS of linking are contrary to Google’s guidelines. In the end …
All the Google ranking algorithms you want to see are specific metrics. It is your job to feed these metrics. And guest posts will always work very well as a marketing function to create an audience and feed the algorithm with the desired metrics.
The idea behind guest blogs is simple:
- You create high-quality content.
- Add some links to the part of the content that points to your site.
- Publish the piece in another place, preferably one with high DA
I will not lie to you: guest blogs are not what they used to be a few years ago.
Getting a genuine link in 2020 is much harder.
Most website owners have chosen it and often want the payment to publish their guest posts. What is nothing but a long way to buy links, right?
And some people are much more direct
This does not mean that guest blogging is not worth it. To start with guest blogs, you must follow 5 steps:
- Find your potential customers
- Rate the correct blogs
- Revelation
- Create content
- Build relationships
The easiest way to do this is with NinjaOutreach, which makes the whole process easy. But you can also do it the “good” way
Step #1:Find Your Prospects
The first step to start creating visitor blogs is to find potential customers. These are the sites where you will publish your content.
Ideally, you want to publish on sites with high DA (domain authority) and high traffic. To find sites that allow you to publish your guest posts, use some of the following footprints:
- Keyword + “guest blogger”
- Keyword + “guest post”
- Keyword + “guest article”
- Keyword + “Add Guest Post”
- Keyword + “Submit Guest Post”
- Keyword + “Submit a Guest Article”
- Keyword + “Guest Post Guidelines”
- Keyword + “become a contributor”
- Keyword + “contribute to this site”
- Keyword + “Add Content”
- Keyword + “write for us”
- Keyword + “write for me”
- Keyword + “submit your writing”
- Keyword + “submit article”
- keyword + “inurl:category/guest”
For example, suppose you want to publish tourist content in London. This is how the results would look on Google:
Open Excel and make a list of all the websites found.
Step #2: Qualify The Blogs
With the list you created, run each site through Ahrefs, my favorite backlink analyzer, to verify domain authority. Take the first site on your list and go to Site Explorer.
Once there, add the site you want to analyze and click on the orange loop icon.
From the menu, select the number you see in the center of the screen below the DR sign.
Add these numbers to your list and repeat the process until you have the AD of all sites. If you want to get an approximation of site traffic, you can also run the sites on SimilarWeb.
There, add each potential customer to the top search bar.
Scroll down and under “Traffic summary”, copy the number shown in “Total visits” and paste it into the Excel spreadsheet.
Of course, all this takes a long time: That’s why you should use NinjaOutreach because it does everything in a few clicks:
Much, much easier!
Step#3. Reaching Out
With the list of sites, go to each site and contact the manager to see if they are interested in your pitch. I recommend that you personalize it a bit and also take advantage of the specific guidelines for the publication of guests they may have.
Step # 4 – Creating amazing content for guest posts
Once accepted, start creating the content. It is important to write with the blog audience in mind!
If you need to deepen the audience of the site, read the comments of previous articles and verify the publications with more actions and comments. Don’t hide anything, write everything you know about it.
- Add quotes
- Add links to other relevant articles on the site
- Add images and videos
- Add what you can to make it amazing
Step#5. Build relationships
One great thing about guest blogs is that it helps build relationships with blog administrators. Networking is important if you need help promoting specific content on your site and want to publish frequently on a high authority site.
While the entire visitor blogging process can be quite tiring, you can use automation to post comments faster. Nick Pierno talks about the importance of website authority and how you can build it in his article: The SEO equation.
ADDITIONAL ADVICE: Engage Their Audience
One of the most overlooked benefits of guest blogs is the ability to open direct conversations with another person.
What does that mean?
Well, that means you should …
- Respond to all comments in your personally invited post
- Monitor the resources shared on social networks and respond to thank
- Configure Google Alerts to enable the URL wherever it is shared
Doing these three things alongside your guest post will speed up your results.
#8. Broken Link Building
Most sites have hundreds, if not thousands, of links. Many of them are linked internally, while others do externally. For some reason, these links may break easily and stop working.
Most website owners do not realize this when this happens and can damage the user experience, reputation, and SEO.
As I write this, I quickly reviewed my blog.
And I broke links from an old a / b experiment where I didn’t redirect the test page! Finding broken links represents a great opportunity for you.
- Create a relationship with the site owner
- Add value to them
- And most importantly, get a high-quality link.
All this makes this one of my favorite types of link building. The construction of broken links is the tactic that Nikolay Stoyanov used to acquire 15 links in 1 day with a conversion rate of 15%.
It is one of the most underused link-building strategies in my opinion. The process of searching and repairing broken links is simple.
Step#1: Target a destination site
The first step is to define the site from which you want to obtain a link. You can choose the website you want, but I recommend that you be realistic about your expectations.
The chances of getting a link from Inc or The New York Times after finding a broken link are reduced to zero. The best sites from which you can get a link are personal blogs and small businesses.
Owners and managers will be grateful for your help and will probably thank you with a link.
Step#2. Find broken links
Once you have created the list of sites you want to link to, you should start looking for broken links. To do this, you can use two tools: Check my links and Ahrefs.
Check My Links is a useful Chrome extension that finds links on a specific page. This tool works very well if you have a page with many links, such as an article with a list of recommendations or a resource page.
For example, suppose you sold kitchen tools. This page presents a long list of recommended tools. On this page, you must click on the Verify my links extension and wait until the tool analyzes the entire page.
Unfortunately on this page, the tool did not find any broken links.
It is a good habit to look for broken links on all the websites you visit regularly to learn about the opportunities available. On each page where you find a broken link, you must create a list where you add each link on each page you are looking for. You will use this later.
If you find this process too long and prefer to look for broken links on a site, no matter where the link is, you can use the steps in my Ahrefs review. Ahrefs will thoroughly review the site and list all the broken links it has.
To do this, go to the Ahrefs Site Explorer and add the site you want to analyze in the main search bar in the middle of the page.
Then, go to backlinks> Broken.
On this page, you can see all the broken incoming links that the site you are analyzing.
This represents a great opportunity to present the site that is linked to the one you are analyzing to get a link from them. Export this list and save it in a separate Excel spreadsheet.
Once finished, return to the menu on the left and click on Outbound Links> Broken Links.
There you will find all the broken outgoing links of the site you are analyzing.
You can use this list of links to inform the site owner. If the page they linked to still exists, inform them.
Once you do that, you can also recommend a similar page on your site. Later I will show you a template that you can use for this purpose. As you did before, export this list.
Finally, you will find all the broken internal links. To do this, click on the search menu bar under Pages> best by links.
There, click on the third button on the left and click on “404 not found.”
Here you will find a list of all internal broken links organized by your URL rating.
This means that the higher the page is in the list, the more link authority it has. Then, if you can get a link on a higher page, you will get a significant increase in the link.
As you did before, export the list of links and save it in your spreadsheet. Repeat the process for all the sites you want to link.
Step#3. contact the blog administrator
Once you have finished reviewing all the sites and pages, it is time to contact the owner or administrator of the blog to inform them about the broken link.
Your first objective should be to build a relationship and build trust. If you have a relevant page for the page where you find the broken link, let them know. Do not do this to get a link; Do this to help them have an excellent page for their readers.
If you don’t have something relevant to offer, focus on fixing the broken link by hand. You will probably find more opportunities later to request a link.
